Proving once again that one hand doesn’t know what the other one is doing, WWE.com has announced that the Triple Threat Match between AJ Styles, Keith Lee, and Matt Riddle will feature a “Sudden Death” stipulation. The only problem is that the company failed to state exactly what “Sudden Death” rules mean. Personally, I’m hoping the WWE is repackaging RAW Underground as Monday Night Mortal Kombat.
The WWE is holding the match on the November 30 RAW to determine just who will face Drew McIntyre next for the WWE Championship. Riddle and Lee are two of the WWE’s most promising performers while AJ Styles’ career speaks for itself.
Adding the stipulation might make the match even more of a must-see moment except fans have no idea what it means. Granted, the WWE likely doesn’t know what it means either, but that’s nothing new for a promotion that drops feuds without explanation, changes wrestlers from heel to babyface like George Steinbrenner used to change managers for the Yankees, and rewrites TV shows while they’re happening.
I’ll be tuning in to watch this, regardless of what the rules are. However, if it’s a “Sudden Death” like I’m hoping, it’s a great move by the WWE as Mortal Kombat-like matches could add some much-needed excitement to the red brand and wean the bloated WWE roster. The WWE had the right idea when it started its RAW Underground
Let me know if this is a case of the WWE making another off the wall announcement or if I need to stop drinking in the afternoon. Either way, color me confused.
