Let’s get into WrestleMania 33…

Location – Camping World Stadium, Orlando, Florida

Date – April 2nd, 2017

Attendance – 75,245

  • Cruiserweight Championship – Neville (C) defeats Austin Aries

Headline – This was a very solid match and Neville would retain his title after raking Aries’ eyes and then hitting the “Red Arrow” on Aries to get the 3-count.

Rating – 3.5 out of 5

  • Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal – Mojo Rawley defeats Aiden English, Apollo Crews, Big Show, Bo Dallas, Braun Strowman, Chad Gable, Curt Hawkins, Curtis Axel, Dolph Ziggler, Epico, Fandango, Goldust, Heath Slater, Jason Jordan, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Jinder Mahal, Kalisto, Killian Dain, Konnor, Luke Harper, Mark Henry, Primo, R-Truth, Rhyno, Sami Zayn, Simon Gotch, Sin Cara, Tian Bing, Titus O’Neil, Tyler Breeze and Viktor

Headline – Mojo Rawley seemingly would be getting his push after winning this battle royal with the help of life-long friend, NFL Legend, Rob Gronkowski. However, Mojo wouldn’t ever get his due in WWE…at least yet.

Rating – 2 out of 5

  • Intercontinental Championship – Dean Ambrose (C) defeats Baron Corbin

Headline – This was a decent match and Ambrose would retain after countering a “End of Days” from Corbin into the “Dirty Deeds” for the win.

Rating – 2.5 out of 5

  • Singles Match – AJ Styles defeats Shane McMahon

Headline – This was one of the best matches of Shane McMahon’s career and rightfully so, because AJ Styles is one of the best wrestlers on the planet. Styles would gain his first WrestleMania win after hitting McMahon with the “Phenomenal Fore-arm”.

Rating – 4 out of 5

  • United States Championship – Kevin Owens defeats Chris Jericho (C)

Headline – This was a very good match and a terrific feud between 2 of Canada’s biggest Wrestling stars. Owens would win his first Unite States Championship after nailing Jericho with the “Pop-Up Power-bomb” for the 3-count.

Rating – 3.5 out of 5

  • Fatal-Four-Way, RAW Women’s Championship – Bayley (C) defeats Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax and Sasha Banks

Headline – This was a solid match between all 4 of these women and Bayley would keep her title after hitting Charlotte with a flying elbow drop from the top rope.

Rating – 3 out of 5

  • Fatal-Four-Way Tag-Team Ladder Match, RAW Tag-Team Championships – Hardy Boyz (Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy) defeat Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows (C), Enzo Amore and Big Cass and Cesaro and Sheamus

Headline – The biggest pop of the night was when the hosts of WrestleMania, The New Day came out to announce that this triple-threat ladder match would have a 4th team added…New Day teased it was them by taking a few steps towards the ring and then The Hardy Boyz theme song began playing and the crowd immediately went into a frenzy as the 2 brothers came out to the ring and would win the tag-team titles.

Rating – 3.5 out of 5

  • Mixed Tag-Team Match – John Cena and Nikki Bella defeat The Miz and Maryse

Headline – This was a match that happened…that’s it. After the match, Cena would “propose” to Nikki…no idea if that proposal was actually real or not. They were obviously a real-life couple, but many people think it was a staged proposal for the “Mania moment”. Nonetheless, Nikki Bella is now engaged to someone else and the couple are expecting a child in the near-future.

  • Unsanctioned Match – Seth Rollins defeats Triple H (with Stephanie McMahon)

Headline – This was a nice match with a few really cool spots including Rollins knocking Stephanie McMahon off of the apron and through a table that was setup at ringside. Rollins would beat “The Game” after hitting him with his own finishing move “The Pedigree”.

Rating – 3.5 out of 5

  • WWE Championship – Randy Orton defeats Bray Wyatt (C)

Headline – In what has become the “how did WWE bury Bray Wyatt, this time?” series instead of WrestleMania Rewind, the WWE seemingly finally gave Wyatt the keys to the kingdom and would let him run with it…instead, the gave him the title, just to have Orton turn on him and beat him in a terrible, rushed, corny match in the middle of the card at WrestleMania. Unreal. Orton would win his 9th WWE Championship after hitting Wyatt with an “RKO”.

Rating – 2 out of 5

  • Universal Championship – Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman) defeats Goldberg (C)

Headline – This was quick, hard-hitting match and the pair would exchange a few of their finishing moves in the short, 4-minute match and Lesnar would become the new Universal Champion after hitting Goldberg with an F-5. This would be Goldberg’s first clean singles loss in his career and Lesnar would be the first superstar in WWE history to win both, the WWE and Universal Championships.

Rating – 3 out of 5

  • 6-Pack Challenge, SmackDown Women’s Championship – Naomi defeats Alexa Bliss (C), Becky Lynch, Carmella, Mickie James and Natalya

Rating – 3 out of 5

  • No-Holds-Barred Match – Roman Reigns defeats The Undertaker

Headline – There were several nice spots in this match and Reigns would win after hitting “The Deadman” with 3 straight spears and finally getting the 3-count. After the match, The Undertaker left his coat, hat and gloves in the middle of the ring, seemingly retiring. While walking to the bckstage area, Taker stopped to kiss his wife, Michelle McCool, who was seated at ringside. The Undertaker didn’t retire and even has a match at this year’s WrestleMania, against AJ Styles.

WrestleMania 33 Rating – 3 out of 5

Summary – WrestleMania 33 was one of the better in-ring worked WrestleMania’s of all-time but the show absolutely dragged on forever and was paced horribly ans by the time the main event rolled around, everyone was half-asleep and couldn’t truly take-in the emotion of what we all thought was The Undertaker saying goodbye.

Thanks for reading! Follow me on Twitter (@CJ_PSE) for tomorrow’s (April 3rd) installment of WrestleMania Rewind, where I will take a look at WrestleMania 34, where UFC Legend, Ronda Rousey would make her in-ring WWE debut!
