Will Shipley And Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Impress In Eagles Preseason Opener
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Baltimore Ravens 16-13 in the preseason opener last night. Wins and losses do not matter in the preseason, what really matters is the play of rookies, battle for roster spots and position battles.
Rookie RB Will Shipley caught a 7-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. He finished the game with with 23 yards on 7 carries and looked good in pass protection against a blitz.
Rookie LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who’s father starred for the Eagles, had a sack, made a big tackle on 3rd down that forced a punt and made a big hit on special teams.
Both Shipley and Trotter Jr. played college football at Clemson last year. Last night, both players proved that they belong in the NFL and could be contributors for the Eagles this season.
First-round draft pick Quinyon Mitchell played both on the outside CB and slot corner and showed great coverage ability. He made a really good play diving for a possible interception.
Mitchell has had a good training camp getting rave reviews from fellow teammates. He should be a opening game starter opposite Darius Slay at corner.
Second-year CB Kelee Ringo played really well all night. He showed sticky coverage and a lot of confidence. Ringo will be a big contributer this season.
It was just one preseason game, but these four players caught my attention.
