“Stupid, stupid, stupid.”

I’m not referencing the now infamous words that Randy Orton screamed at Kofi Kingston on a Monday Night Raw episode in January of 2010 when Kofi was slow to get into position for an RKO (which by the way, was a complete overreaction by Randy for a botch where no injury occured).

I’m referencing my thoughts on the official upcoming Summerslam card: Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship – Stupid!

Becky Lynch vs Natalya for the Raw Women’s Championship- Stupid!

Bayley vs Ember Moon for the Smackdown Women’s Championship – Stupid!

I’m just not interested in these matches.  Therefore, I’m turning to the rumored section of the card for my hope and intrigue for what is supposed to be a top 4 event in the WWE calendar.

Kevin Owens vs Shane McMahon (or one of his cronies)

Bray Wyatt vs Finn Balor

An UnderTaker match

AJ Styles vs Ricochet for the United States Championship

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Ali for the Intercontential Championship

The Iiconics vs the Kabuki Warriors for the Women’s Tag Team Championships

And many other mid-card options that will sort themselves over the upcoming weeks.

But there is one potential match that has everything a fan could want: a championship on the line, two high work-rate competitors and a storyline that makes sense currently, while being rooted in Legacy (pun intended) and history as well.

Kofi Kingston defending the WWE Championship vs Randy Orton!

The available shoot promo that Kofi could deliver accusing Orton of squashing his original push would be legendary- having the potential to far succeed the promos between AJ Styles & Orton during their build-up to their Wrestlemania match this year.

Orton’s available rebuttal of “I killed your momentum, because I had more power and influence in this industry in the womb than a scrub like you will ever have” would bring back the ideal version of Randy’s character-  an entitled second generation heel that we love to hate.

It is unclear if Eric Bischoff will be the Executive Producer for all things Smackdown when Summerslam rolls around.  But what is clear is my hope in the product has been revitalized, because of the refreshing changes that have slowly begun to be implemented into the creative process again.

Here’s hoping that the Summerslam will only have one match that will be described as “Stupid, stupid, stupid” in the best way possible.
