The White Sox have been searching for a corner outfielder this winter and it seems like they have gotten one. Despite reports they were chasing Michael Brantley and George Springer, they’ve surprisingly pivoted to their past for their future: 2019 World Champion Adam Eaton.

At 32, Eaton’s contract with the Nationals ended prematurely after they bought out the final year of his deal. He is now signing for $7M to return to the Southside for at least one more season. Eaton was first sent to Chicago in the trade that sent Mark Trumbo to Arizona and Tyler Skaggs to Anaheim. From 2014 to 2016, the lefty hit .290/.362/.422 which is good enough for an above league average OPS of .783. His lifetime slash is .282/.360/.416 for a .775 OPS. Prior to the 2017 season, they traded Eaton to the Nation’s capital for their current ace Lucas Giolito, Dane Dunnning (who they dealt last night for Lance Lynn) and another member of their current pitching staff in Reynaldo Lopez.
