Sporting events all over the world are being postponed due to the current health crisis. The Coronavirus has put the sporting world on hold and the NFL must be glad their season had already ended before this crisis deepened. Even so, the virus is causing American Football problems and it’s not helping the gambling industry either.

The NFL season ended with the Super Bowl extravaganza that took place on February 2nd. Just imagine the chaos that would have been caused if the Coronavirus pandemic had hit the USA in January and February. The play-offs and Super Bowl would have most likely been postponed.

The lack of NFL matches in March isn’t anything new of course but it doesn’t help the gambling industry. They have had months of matches taking place, giving their customers ample betting opportunities. Those sites currently seeing sports betting revenues slumping must wish they’d have had some NFL games to offer odds on and take bets on.

The NFL season may not start until later in the year (hopefully), but the gambling industry can still offer odds on the league. There’s ante-post betting for who will win the 2021 Super Bowl as well as markets for each division in both the AFC and NFC.

In addition, there is plenty of betting available on the drafts that will take place before the new season begins (whenever that might be). This includes odds being offered on the first Running Back drafted and the first Safety drafted. The gambling industry will hope that this brings in some revenue but it’s nothing compared to what would be received when the NFL season is taking place.

American Football isn’t all about the NFL of course. The XFL was relaunched earlier this year and began after the NFL season had ended. That was nowhere near as popular as the NFL but still produced some revenue.

With bets being laid on the NFL and American Football in general falling, what will the gambling industry do?  Already, we are seeing more emphasis being placed on other areas of online gambling sites. The emphasis has to be on online activity, via online bookies as many High Street bookmakers are now closed. Punters who can’t have a matchday bet are looking for alternative avenues outside of football like in the Asian market such as VOdds, a handicap betting platform. Offering aggregated real-time odds from a comprehensive list of difficult to reach Asian bookies with a growing list of bookmakers, they are offering an alternative to the UK fans looking to bet on sports during the global climate. Users can just access VOdds through vodds.com, vodds.co or vodds.net, or even use a VPN for uninterrupted access

Online betting sites have a great deal of content on them. They are placing more emphasis on areas such as their casinos which remain open 24/7. The same applies to virtual sports trading which includes football, greyhound racing, horse racing and motor racing. There are events taking place every few minutes, so this presents the online gambling site with a steady supply of betting opportunities to their customers. The same is happening with Esports as bookies try to keep their businesses operating.

Just when this crisis is going to end, no one knows. The NFL will be hoping their new season can begin on time in September and so does the gambling industry. Only time will tell just what will happen.
