Another Wednesday is upon us & with that comes PSE’s weekly Wrestling news roundup. We’ll go through some of the biggest & most important news that has came to light in the past week & preview some upcoming events over the coming week in WWE, AEW, NWA, IMPACT, ROH, NJPW & more.

Let’s get into the news…

WWE News

  • Former Super Bowl Champion & newly retired-NFL superstar, Rob Gronkowski has reached an agreement with the WWE on a multi-year deal. The former-New England Patriot legend is expected to debut on SmackDown, next Friday night (March 20th), though his appearance hasn’t yet been announced.
  • WWE held a private meeting with high-ranking officials, this morning to discuss potentially postponing or cancelling events including WrestleMania Fan Events, WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony, NXT TakeOver: Tampa Bay & even WrestleMania 36 itself due to the Coronavirus outbreak. There is expected to be a decision on all of the events, within the next 48 hours.
  • Saudi Arabian based journalist, Mr. King, was interviewed by Wrestling Inc & expressed extreme local disappointment by the Saudi fans & officials when Goldberg defeated The Fiend at Super Showdown in Saudi, earlier this month. King also noted that they were also upset that Brock Lesnar squashed Ricochet so quickly.
  • Edge & Brock Lesnar are expected to miss RAW, next Monday night & both return for the final 2 RAW’s before WrestleMania 36 on March 23rd & March 30th to conclude the build to their respective matches heading into the show of shows, April 5th.
  • According to PSE’s very own, Brad Shepard, several months ago, former RAW Women’s Champion, Nia Jax was expected to be medically cleared for full in-ring action, around this time & that is the case as she is fully cleared to go & is awaiting WWE to place her back into a story-line.
  • The salaries for the top 5 ranking officials in WWE for the 2019 year were publicly released, last week. Vince McMahon made $1.4 million, George Barrios (who just left the company) made $935,250, Michelle Wilson (who also just left the company) also made $935,250, Paul Levesque (Triple H) made $730,000 & Stephanie McMahon also made $730,000. Those figures are just base salaries & don’t include bonuses or stock options. Numbers also don’t include Triple H & Stephanie McMahon’s WWE on-screen talent salaries.
  • Triple H (real name Paul Levesque) received a new official title in WWE’s corporate offices, he will now hold the title of Executive Vice President as well as Global Talent Strategy & Development.
  • AJ Styles & The Undertaker’s WrestleMania match could have a Casket Match stipulation added. It wasn’t a coincidence that during his promo, Monday night on RAW, Styles used the line “I’m literally going to put the final nail in Undertaker’s coffin.” The Undertaker will be on Monday Night RAW, next week to have a contract signing with AJ Styles to make their WrestleMania 36 match official. WWE Hall of Famer, Stone Cold Steve Austin will also appear on the show as it’ll be 3/16 (March 16th).
  • This Friday night on SmackDown, 16-time WWE Champion, John Cena will return to address The Fiend, Bray Wyatt just weeks before their huge encounter at WrestleMania 36. Also on Friday, former Divas Champion, Paige & former WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy will both return to the show. No reason for either of their appearances has been announced.
  • It was announced, earlier today that this weekend’s XFL game in Seattle will be held without any fans in the stadium but will still be broadcast live on ESPN 2 as regularly scheduled.

AEW News

  • AEW released their updated rankings, today & are as follows…

  • AEW Producer & former WWE Hall of Famer, Billy Gun is celebrating his 9th consecutive year of sobriety, today. Huge congrats to the “Ass Man” on this enormous milestone.
  • AEW released a statement about the Coronavirus epidemic. The company noted that they’ll continue to monitor the situation, but all of their currently scheduled events will still go on as planned
  • AEW announced that Kenny Omega isn’t expected to be medically cleared for in-ring action for another couple of weeks due to the hand injury that he suffered at the AEW Revolution PPV event, 2 weeks ago.
  • According to multiple reports, the AEW Revolution PPV event is ranging in the 100,000 buys range, which would be their 2nd highest selling PPV event of the company’s short history, behind their first ever PPV event, Double or Nothing, in May 2019.

NJPW, NWA, IMPACT Wrestling, Ring of Honor News

  • New Japan (NJPW) has announced that cancellation of several more events due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The company announced the cancellation of every event between March 14th & March 22nd. The company announced, last week that they cancelled the first half of their New Japan Cup Tour.
  • ROH’s 18th Anniversary PPV event’s main event will be new ROH World Champion, Rush defending his title against Mark Haskins. Rush won the title from now-former Champion, PCO in a Triple-Threat match that also featured Haskins.
  • Last night on IMPACT Wrestling’s weekly show, it was announced that IMPACT World Champion, Tessa Blanchard will defend her title against Michael Elgin & Eddie Edwards at their next PPV event, Rebellion, on April 19th, in New York City.
  • A few injury updates for IMPACT Wrestling superstars were announced over the weekend. Rich Swann is not expected back in the ring until sometime in September after breaking his Tibia, in January. Rob Van Dam’s broken rib should be healed in a couple of weeks & is dealing with the injury on a week-to-week basis but he was not at last night’s show. Former IMPACT World Champion, Brian Cage tore his bicep, which he had surgery to repair, in January & says he isn’t quite sure on when he’ll return to the ring.
  • Scott Steiner’s wife, Christa & friend & fellow Wrestler, Tommy Dreamer provided an update on Scott’s health after Steiner collapsed at IMPACT’s latest tapings, last week. Christa & Tommy said that Scott will make a 100% recovery & will return to the ring sometime, this year. Great news to hear after such a scary situation, just days ago.
