Las Vegas had to kick off their season on the road last week, but they showed no ill effects. They snuck past the Carolina Panthers with a 34-30 win. Las Vegas’ RB Josh Jacobs was one of the most active players for the team, punching in three rushing touchdowns.

Meanwhile, New Orleans took care of business in their home opener. They were able to grind out a solid victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last .handicapping themselves with 116 penalty yards. Their RB Alvin Kamara filled up the stat sheet, punching in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD. QB Taysom Hill’s longest connection was to Kamara for 38 yards in the fourth quarter.

The Raiders got away with a 35-34 win when the teams previously met four seasons ago. Will they repeat their success, or does New Orleans have a better game plan this time around? We’ll find out soon enough.

Series History.

Quarterbacks Drew Brees and Derek Carr likely remember the last time the New Orleans Saints and then-Oakland Raiders tangled in 2016.

Brees threw for 423 yards and 4 touchdowns on September 11, 2016, but 22 fourth-quarter points by the Silver and Black equaled a wild 35-34 Raiders win.
Those franchise QBs remain but little else. The Raiders are beginning year 3 of the Jon Gruden era, have moved to Las Vegas, and are about to showcase spanking new Allegiant Stadium to the world. Yep, they’re wheeling in the natural surface from outside right now.

It should be quite a show – that’s what Vegas does! – although fans won’t be allowed in until next season due to the pandemic.

No matter. It’s always a good time when Brees and the Saints come around, but how will that high-powered offense deal with the loss of top wideout Michael Thomas? He suffered a high-ankle sprain in the opener vs. Tampa Bay.

RB Josh Jacobs is a priority for New Orleans. He rushed 25 times and netted three touchdowns in the Raiders’ 34-30 victory over Carolina in week 1. Carr was equally efficient, targeting 22 of 30 passes for 239 yards.
