What was Linda McMahon’s affiliation with the “March to Save America” Rally, the event that some people are blaming for the January 6 takeover of the United States Capitol? That’s the question some are asking after the events of January 6 where five people lost their lives at the occupation of the U.S. Capitol. Linda McMahon’s role as chairwoman of America First Policies, which CNBC is linking to the group which organized the rally.
The gist of the CNBC story is:
The rally, officially known as the “March to Save America,” was largely organized by a 501(c)(4) group known as Women for America First.
The events of January 6 are still being investigated and at this point it’s speculative to claim the rally itself was the impetus that led to the occupation of the Capitol. With claims that agent provocateurs were present and inciting people to riot as well as the claim that Donald Trump himself inspired the claim, it seems premature to lay the blame anywhere.
However, when has society ever hesitated in rushing to judgment? CNBC seems to blame the “March to Save America” for what happened in D.C. so let’s see where they plan on taking things with their questionable logic. According to CNBC:
America First Policies, a pro-Trump policy advocacy dark money group, did disclose in 2019 that they contributed to Women for America First. America First’s 990 disclosure form from that year shows they contributed $25,000 to Women for America First.
The next bit of information from CNBC is where some people seem to have lost it:
America First Policies, which is also a 501(c)(4) that does not disclose its donors, is chaired by Linda McMahon, a longtime Trump ally and former head of the Small Business Administration. The 2019 filing shows America First Policies ended up raising over $30 million. They were not involved with the planning of the rally itself.
While the CNBC story clearly states “They [Trump or McMahon] were not involved with the planning of the rally itself” people are crying foul over Linda McMahon’s role in what happened on January 6. At this point, anyone who tells you Linda McMahon was involved in the rally is ignorant of the facts. At this point, no one should be making dubious accusations as we try to collectively make sense of what happened.
