The Reds and Indians played in a tied ballgame until the bottom of the eighth when Emanuel Clase let the game get out of reach on a throwing and a balk. This allowed Wade Miley the opportunity to make MLB history and he took it. Striking out eight and walking one, Wade Miley retired the first 16 hitters in concession on his way to collected the elusive 27th out in a no-hit bid.

Miley induced a pop up off of the bat of catcher Rene Rivera to start the ninth inning, he retired Cesar Hernandez and the final out was a groundball to shortstop Kyle Farmer off of the bat of Jordan Luplow. With that, the 34-year-old Miley celebrated with catcher Tucker Barnhart. He is the oldest NL pitcher to hurl a no-hitter since Hall of Famer Randy Johnson was perfect against the Atlanta Braves in 2004.

It is the fourth official no-hitter in MLB this season, fifth overall. Joe Musgrove of the Padres, Carlos Rodon of the White Sox and John Means of the Orioles have hurled nine inning no-hit bids while Madison Bumgarner of the Diamondbacks pitched a no-hitter against the Braves in a double header that is not officially recognized by the league due to the seven inning rule. If this seems as if it’s an historically high number of no-hitters this early into the season, that’s because it is.

The Indians, who fall to half a game behind the White Sox for first place in the AL Central, have been no-hit for the second time this season (Rodon), and it’s MLB’s second no-hitter this week.
