New York Mets farmhand Tim Tebow had all kinds of trouble in the outfield during a Grapefruit League contest versus the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this afternoon.

With the Mets leading 3-2 in the top of the ninth inning, Cardinals infielder Max Schrock hit a lazy flyball to left field that would have ended the game in a normal circumstance. However, someone forgot to inform Mr. Tebow to trim his extra-long shoelaces before patrolling the outfield.

Tebow got his spikes hung up in his laces and went for an unfortunate tumble resulting in the misplay. The Cardinals did not capitalize on the shoelace double although Tebow undoubtedly took some friendly ribbing from the boys at the conclusion of the game.

The 32-year old is still attempting to transition from football to baseball, however, Father Time is not on his side. Tebow split last season between Double and Triple-A although he only mustered a .163/.240/.250 slash line in 264 plate appearances with the Mets Triple-A affiliate.

Earlier this week, Tebow acknowledged that he would represent his native Philippines in the upcoming World Baseball Classic qualifier. The former Heisman Trophy winner was born in Makati, Philippines before his family relocated to Florida.

Tebow is arguably the most sincere and genuine player in the game, however, today his shoelaces showed no mercy.
