The world is less than a month away from the 202ONE Summer Olympic Games, and there’s already some controversy going on involving one notable Olympian ahead.

BMX competitor Chelsea Wolfe said in an article by Detroit’s 97.1 the Ticket that she is ‘planning to burn the American flag on the podium’ if she won any medals.

Wolfe, who is identified as a transgender woman, is seeking to become the first trans athlete in history to compete for the United States team in this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“This is what they focus on during a pandemic. Hurting trans children,” Wolfe said in a March 2020 Facebook post.

The athlete later clarified the post that it didn’t mean she cared for her country, it’s in more on the lines of Wolfe representing herself and ‘taking a stand against fascism.’

“One of the reasons why I work so hard to represent the United States in international competition is to show the world that this country has morals and values, that it’s not all of the bad things that we’re known for,” Wolfe explained.

“I take a stand against fascism because I care about this country, and I’m not going to let it fall into the hands of fascists after so many people have fought and sacrificed to prevent fascism from taking hold abroad. As a citizen who wants to be proud of my home country, I’m sure as hell not going to let it take hold here.”
