UNC has made the decision on who will replace the hall of fame coach Roy Williams. The answer is former UNC player Hubert Davis. Davis played for UNC under Dean Smith from 1988-1992. While playing at UNC, Davis helped the Heels reach three sweet 16’s and one final four. Plus, two ACC tournament championships and holds the UNC record for career three point percentage (.435). Davis then went on to play 12 years in the NBA. Since then Davis has been an assistant under Roy Williams for nine seasons.
I don’t hate this for UNC or love it. This hire is meh, it’s a predictable one for sure. UNC could have just about gotten anyone they wanted to be the head coach but decided to stay in family. Davis is a good recruiter but has no head coaching experience. Shocked UNC didn’t go with Wes Miller here as the coach but apparently Roy wanted Davis too be the next coach.
Well Davis has some big shoes to fill, good luck because you will need it.
