UK Championship 2020 LIVE – Just a day after Judd Trump’s victory at the Northern Ireland Open, we go again in Milton Keynes as the UK Championship gets underway, with the first round televised live on Eurosport for the first time. And a fluke at the start of the fourth frame gifted him the chance to establish daylight, but he was unable to convert as White restored parity. After pinching the fifth frame, Selby lost a lengthy safety battle in the next as White refused to be overawed in Milton Keynes, the same venue that had just hosted the Northern Ireland Open due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Selby belatedly asserted his authority to open up a 5-3 advantage and, although White hit back, a knock of 75 finally carried Selby into the next round.

The tournament, which starts on Monday, is being played behind closed doors and away from the York Barbican for the first time since 2011 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

World champion Ronnie O’Sullivan will seek to win his eighth title while world number one Judd Trump will attempt to lift the trophy for a second time.

China’s Ding Junhui is the reigning champion having beaten Stephen Maguire 10-6 last year in an absorbing final featuring seven century breaks.
