U.P. High School, Trades Teacher Earns ‘Teaching Excellence’ Award (Hancock)

One Upper Peninsula high school and their Industrial Arts teacher has earned a prestigious ‘Teaching Excellence’ award for the 2020-21 school year.

Posted from the school’s Facebook page, Hancock Central High School and trades teacher Gary Mishica were awarded $50,000 from the Harbor Freight’s Tools for Schools

Mishica and the Hancock school’s trades program was one out of 600 applications that were submitted from 48 states across the country, and was selected as part of the 50 finalists in it. Along with 17 others in the U.S., Mishica’s application was selected as one of the winners to the award.

For the award itself, the Industrial Arts program will receive $35,000, while Mishica himself receives $15,000.

Mishica has been involved with teaching the trades arts for over 35 years at Hancock Public Schools, and has been teaching for over 39 years.
