Two Potential Big Money Championship Transfers in 2021

Spread the love

Why the Championship is likely to be counted as one of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world, it is certainly one of the most competitive. The rewards for those that are promoted out of the league are vast, and it is that promised land of the Premier League that leads to clubs and players doing their utmost to get there.

Players get to test themselves at the highest level, negotiate better contracts for themselves and clubs earn more revenue via broadcasting deals, sponsorship deals, and the potential to compete in European competitions.

Some players manage to make their way to the top division, even if not promoted with their clubs. Each transfer window Premier League teams scour the Championship for players already showing they have a chance of cutting it at the top. Think Ollie Watkins to Aston Villa for £27 million, Ben Godfrey to Everton for £25 million, and Ryan Sessegnon to Tottenham Hotspur for £24 million in recent seasons as examples.

But who are the most likely Championship players to attract Premier League interest this summer? There are two almost certain to attract interest.

Ivan Toney

If there was ever an example of a player joining a big club, not making the grade, being sold down the leagues, and then working their way back up the leagues, it would be Ivan Toney. Signed by Newcastle United from League Two side Northampton, they expected big things from 16-year-old Toney.

However, he spent the next three seasons being loaned out to lower league sides before he was sold to League One Peterborough for £650k. It quickly proved a mistake to sell the player who went on to score 40 times in 76 matches before Championship side Brentford snapped him up for £5 million plus add-ons.

Fast forward half a season, Ivan Toney sits top of the league with Brentford and is the leading goalscorer in the division with over 20 goals already. If he does not make it with Brentford, Toney is one player PL sides will no doubt court.

Catch the Championship via Football Live Streaming Services

If you are yet to see Ivan Toney in action, you are missing out on seeing the next player with a chance of making a mark in the top flight. Fortunately, football live streaming of the Championship is widely available. In fact, you can catch the football and other sports online via live streaming sports sites and platforms.

Plenty of sites detail all the live streaming football options you currently have available to you. This includes listing the fixtures you can watch from all the top leagues around the world, the platforms providing you with the ability to watch sports online, and guides on how to live stream football to your mobile and desktop devices.

Adam Armstrong

Ironically, Adam Armstrong has a similar history to Ivan Toney. Signed as a youngster for Newcastle United, represented England at all youth levels, but could not force his way into the first team fixture. He spent many seasons on loan to League One and Two clubs before Blackburn Rovers signed him for £3.75 million three seasons ago.

A striker, there is just one player with more goals in the Championship, a certain Ivan Toney. Both players play in the same position but have a different style, and Armstrong’s strength is definitely his pace and finishing ability. Strikers need pace to make it at Premier League clubs, and that is why he is a strong contender for a big move at the end of this season.

Some Notable Mentions to Finish Off

Toney and Armstrong are the obvious candidates for big-money moves to the Premier League or possibly abroad, but there are many others that will attract interest too. Ismaila Sarr looks far too good a defender at Championship level, Emi Buendia always looks a class above, and Joao Pedro already has PL experience.
