Tropicana Field Roof Blown Off as Hurricane Milton Hits Tampa Bay Area
Tropicana Field, the iconic home of the Tampa Bay Rays, suffered extensive damage as Hurricane Milton started to rip through the area on Wednesday night. The powerful Category 3 storm made landfall just south of Tampa, bringing with it fierce winds that ripped the stadium’s roof from its structure.
The stadium had been designated as a temporary shelter for thousands of first responders who were stationed there before and during the storm. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, as emergency crews quickly mobilized to ensure everyone’s safety.
As Hurricane Milton started to barrel through the Tampa Bay area, local officials warned residents to stay off the roads and take necessary precautions. The storm, which packed sustained winds exceeding 120 mph, caused widespread damage across the region, leaving thousands without power and severely impacting infrastructure.
The Rays organization has yet to release a statement regarding the extent of the damage to Tropicana Field as the storm is still happening.
The stadium, which has been a staple of the St. Petersburg area since 1990, has endured storms before, but none with as much impact as Hurricane Milton.
