In an unsurprising move, Pirates pitcher Trevor Williams has elected free agency. Williams, who has been a staple in the rotation since 2017, has posted an okay 4.34 ERA over his last 522 innings and hasn’t necessarily set the world on fire.

But, he still has quality stuff and could be a solid number four for most teams. The alternative to testing the open market was to accept an outright assignment to the team’s Triple A affiliate.

2020 was a lost cause for Williams as he went 2-8 with a 6.18 ERA. He gave up the most homeruns in baseball (15). However, he’s not too far removed from a solid 2018 campaign that saw him posted a 3.11 ERA in 170 innings of work and should grant him some more viable suiters.
