Considering that San Diego Comic-Con would’ve been the PERFECT place for it, we’re a little shocked that we didn’t get to see footage of Spawn in Mortal Kombat 11. After all, NetherRealm confirmed that the anti-hero would be making his debut in the game sometime over the next year. So…why not show him there?
But don’t be too disappointed. The character’s creator, Todd McFarlane, did discuss him to some extent during the show, speaking with IGN in t he video below.
Though he didn’t reveal what Spawn will bring to the table yet, he did note that he was excited to see what the character will do for the game. However, there’s a catch. Once he’s introduced, he needs to be as absolutely gory and over-the-top as he can possibly be – in full Spawn fashion. NetherRealm naturally agreed.
The reason for this, according to McFarlane, is that he wants newcomers to jump in and enjoy what Spawn has to offer within the game, so that they’ll enjoy playing as him just as much as they would other characters. And they continued to update him on how things were coming along.
Although no specifics were given, McFarlane sounds pleased with Spawn’s progress, as a huge grin indicates that we’re all in for a treat, depending when the reveal will take place. Hopefully, sometime this year, fingers crossed.
Spawn will be part of the Season Pass program that’s currently taking place at the moment. Shang Tsung previously made his debut, and Sindel, Nightwolf and Spawn are currently next in line, along with two bonus characters.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
