The improving Detroit Tigers didn’t waste any time to start off their 2021-22 offseason.
Just a day after the Atlanta Braves won the World Series over the Houston Astros, the Tigers traded an Single A infield prospect in infielder Nick Quintana with the Cincinnati Reds for catcher Tucker Barnhart.
As mentioned in the Tigers’s tweet, Barnhart comes to Detroit winning two Gold Gloves as one of the best defenders on the MLB field. He won his only Gold Glove awards back in 2017 and in 2020.
Last season in Cincinnati, Barnhart raked a .247 batting average, hitting seven home runs and 48 RBIs.
He will join Detroit’s crowded catchers room and farm system that also has Eric Haase, Dustin Garneau, Grayson Greiner, Dillon Dingler, and Jake Rogers (who’s on IL for Tommy John surgery) on their current roster.
