Second generation sportscaster Thom Brennaman was suspended by FOX Sports Ohio in the middle of the game and forced to do an on-air apology earlier this season when he dropped homophobic slurs on air.
Here’s his apology:
Personally, I don’t think it was enough. True men of faith don’t use judgmental terms like that, and if it wasn’t who he is, he wouldn’t have said it. He was sorry he got caught.
He was suspended immediately, and has now resigned from the job, whether he resigned because he was going to get let go remains to be seen. He was the voice of the Arizona Diamondbacks from 1998 to 2006, before he joined his father Marty in Cincinnati. 2021 will be the first year since 1973 that a Reds broadcast didn’t feature a Brennaman on the call.
