The Significance Of Din Djarin’s New Weapon In The Mandalorian

In Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin (Mando), finds himself in possession of a new weapon that can have extreme importance going forward this season.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

There was a lot to unpack in this week’s episode of The Mandalorian. It was arguably one of the best episodes in the series so far. We finally got to see Ashoka Tano in live action as the episode started off with her battling with residents of the planet Corvus.

The magistrate of the city Calodan offers Mando a mission to rid the city of the threat that is Ashoka. In return, the magistrate would give Mando a staff made out of Beskar, the same material that his armor is made of and is a material that many people in the series want to get their hands on.

We see in this episode that Beskar can directly oppose a lightsaber without being broken or demolished. The magistrate uses it to battle Ashoka, albeit unsuccessful, it still stood the highest chance compared to any other weapon we’ve seen in the live action Star Wars Universe.

After Ashoka defeats the magistrate, she gives the staff to Mando. He decided to team up with Ashoka instead of taking the magistrates deal, and in the end still ended up with the staff.

The significance of being in possession of the staff is huge for Mando. We saw in the finale of season one that the main protagonist, Moff Gideon, wields the Darksaber. Previously, Mando had no weapon to directly oppose the Darksaber. Now we know that he does. This undoubtedly foreshadows a one-on-one matchup against Moff Gideon later in the series.

Moff Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito hinted at close up action with the Darksaber saying that he had broken multiple Darksaber props during filming this season.

Hopefully we will see a team up of Mando, Bo Katan, and Ashoka against Moff Gideon later in the season. Chapter 13 has confirmed that Mando now has the weapon that will counter the Darksaber.
