I don’t know about you guys but I was really excited for this movie to come out. Not only am I a huge fan of Judd Apatow’s work, I was also extremely intrigued with Pete Davidson’s debut movie that he is the main star in. He is casted to play himself in his own semi-biographical film with a story inspired by his actual life. It’s absolutely brilliant. Everyone plays their role perfectly. From Bill Burr as the rugged and fiery yet kind and caring character, Marisa Tomei as Pete’s caring and independent mother, and even Judd Apatow’s daughter Maude who plays Pete Davidson’s sister. It’s the perfect fit and everyone did so well portraying these people in Pete’s life.

The music in the movie is incredible. Each song that was picked to be on the film was well placed in some way and is extremely meaningful to Pete. This Variety article even describes how One Headlight needed to be in the film and why it was meaningful to Pete and even Judd. As Pete mentions in his many interviews promoting the film, Kid Cudi literally saved him from taking his own life and so adding Pursuit of Happiness in the film was essential to telling his story.

Although the movie doesn’t get it’s deserved conventional release, with all movie theaters still closed due to the coronavirus, the film is available for rent on demand. I urge you to take a date, take your mom, take your friends to see this film because this film is a perfect summer film because of its perfect mix of a light hearted, hilarious, and deep story of Pete’s life.
