After injuries to their starting rotation and after losing five straight games, the Detroit Tigers are calling up two of their top five prospects, Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal.

Mize was the first overall selection of the MLB draft in 2018 and Skubal broke out with a big year last year, putting himself on the fast track to the majors.

Both have been heavily covered as the Tigers have been in rebuilding mode for a few seasons now.

General Manager Al Avila said of the move “It’s the proper time,” Avila said in a Zoom call Monday.  “… It’s performance based from here on out. As I said before, when we brought these guys up, we want them here to stay. We’ll see how it turns out.”
