The Circus Returns: Former Boxing Champion Oscar De La Hoya vs UFC Legend Vitor Belfort In An Exhibition Fight

Spread the love

Just when you thought the circus-like Triller boxing events were done with for a while, another one pops up and this time it’s in the form of a 48 year old former boxer vs a 44 year old former UFC fighter. For the love of God stop the madness. It was announced that former boxing champion, Oscar De La Hoya, will fight former UFC champion, Vitor Belfort, on September 11th in an exhibition boxing match.

Vitor Belfort retired from the UFC in 2018 after much realization that he would not become champion again at 44 years old. Oscar De La Hoya boxed his last fight in 2008 after a loss to Manny Pacquiao.

Vitor Belfort told TMZ Sports the following, “Oscar is an Olympic gold medalist one of the best pound-for-pound fighters ever. He revolutionized the sport. Vitor was the youngest UFC champion. If it were not for Oscar, [Floyd] Mayweather wouldn’t exist. If it were not for Vitor Belfort, [Conor] McGregor wouldn’t exist. Now the new generation will be taught about the history of the sport. This fight will break all the records. This fight will sell more than Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman.”

I am completely baffled. Does anyone really want to see this fight? I’m sure it’ll be your typical Triller event with random performances, TikTok star appearances, Snoop Dogg commentating, and smoke machines on full blast.

Over the past few months, we’ve had these circus-like fights shoved down our throats:

Jake Paul vs Ben Askren

Logan Paul vs Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley

Anderson Silva vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

Logan Paul vs Nate Robinson

TikTokers vs YouTubers

The list goes on and on and it doesn’t seem as if the end is near. As long as there is a market for these types of fights, they will continue to occur. In other words, as long as you continue to pay for these pay-per-views, they will continue to embarrass combat sports by putting on these “fights.”
