Texas Rangers to sign Marcus Semien to a seven-year, $175 million deal

The first big infielder and particularly, a shortstop, came off the free agent market on Sunday.

Marcus Semien, fresh off a near-MVP season, will sign a seven-year deal with the Texas Rangers.

The 31-year old Semien finished third in the AL MVP voting, as he hit .265 with 45 home runs and 102 RBI in 162 games for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Texas had been reported to wanting to snag a major free agent and one of the big shortstops and land one in Semien.

With the current Collective Bargaining Agreement set to expire on December 1 and a possible lockout looming, teams have been trying to sign players as quick as they can before it.
