The worst thing about sports blogging is reporting on the deaths of athletes. With that said, it just happens to be part of the job.

Unfortunately late last month, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills linebacker, Eugene Marve passed away at the age of 60.

Marve was the ver first player from Saginaw Valley State to be drafted into the NFL. in 1982, he was the third-round pick of the Buffalo Bills and played with them for six seasons. He then signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1988 and played four seasons there. He then went on to play one final season in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers in 1992.

Saginaw Valley State University head coach Ryan Brady had the following to say about Marve’s passing:

“The SVSU Football family is deeply saddened by the passing of Eugene Marve,” said SVSU coach Ryan Brady. “Eugene is and always will be a dear friend and an all-time great of SVSU Football.

“I feel blessed, fortunate and grateful to have developed a such a strong bond and relationship with Eugene in my short time as head football coach at SVSU. I will always remember the inspirational speech he delivered to the team in my first fall camp as head coach. Also, he traveled with the team to Texas and served as team chaplain in my first game and first win at SVSU! I will forever cherish those moments and memories of prayer and football with Eugene.

Now that the Julio Jones trade saga has officially ended, there are several other popular NFL free agents out there that need to be signed. One of the other big name free agents out there right now is Todd Gurley, and he is rumored to be signing with the Detroit Lions.
