We are officially halfway through the XFL’s (second) inaugural season with week five now in the books.

To be honest, I am actually pretty impressed with the league so far and hope that it is able to continue to operate past this season. The league was able to secure television contracts with ABC/ESPN and Fox and is often airing on their main networks, not the cable subsidiaries. The ratings have dropped each week so far, but they are still doing much better than last years failed AAF league.

The league has seen some success stories such as P.J. Walker and the undefeated Houston Roughnecks and some failures such as the late game officiating blunder that cost Seattle an opportunity to tie the game in the closing seconds.

Overall the product on the field has been pretty good. The play hasn’t been especially crisp early on, but that is to be expected from a team sport that hasn’t had a ton of live reps to practice and no pre-season games.
