A rare celestial event is happening around the world, leaving people to wonder what the Super Flower Blood Moon is and whether we can trust it. The rare full lunar eclipse known as a blood moon is even more frightening for some as certain evangelists believe it’s a sign from God that humanity’s run is done. However, skeptics see the rare heavenly happening as the results of celestial objects lining up right rather than a cryptic warning from the Almighty.

First, what is a blood moon? A recent article from the Daily Mail describes what it’s all about:

A supermoon is a stellar phenomenon that occurs when our natural satellite is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, causing it to appear 30 per cent brighter and 14 per cent bigger than usual.

It is known as a Flower Moon as that is a moon that coincides with the flowers blooming in May, and a blood moon as there will be a total lunar eclipse, although that will not occur until about 12:18 BST so won’t be visible in the UK

Where things get interesting is that some Christian evangelists believe the super blood moon is a sign of the Apocalypse. According to the Express:

Many Christian evangelists interpret this astronomical event as a sign from God, believing Blood Moons were foretold thousands of years ago in Bible. Both the Old and New Testament speak of the Moon turning “blood red” in the final days of mankind – and many seem to think these times are closing in on us.

As someone with a good knowledge of the Bible and evangelicals, I’ve heard people talk about super blood moons being some sort of sign that the end is near, but I wouldn’t say “many” evangelists believe so. However, the people who do believe are fairly vocal:

Naturally, this isn’t the first time a group of people have looked to the sky for a sign that the end is near. This kind of things has been going on ever since people figured out there’s a pattern to the heavenly bodies.

I’m not going to tell anyone what to believe or what not to believe but I won’t be losing any sleep over the Super Flower Blood Moon. Will you?
