2018 No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton has been a key part of the Sun’s for the last couple years and especially throughout their run to the 2021 NBA Finals.

Ayton is eligible for a five-year $172.5 million extension which could reach to $207 million. The deadline for rookie extensions is October 18th which is coming up quickly and there seems to still be no agreement among Ayton and the Suns.

The Suns do not want to give Ayton the max contract extension. Ayton has since stalled discussions on any deal being made at this time.

The 2018 NBA draft class has been collecting money this off-season and Ayton wants some as well, as he should. Trae Young, Luke Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Michael Porter Jr have all received max contracts. There’s no chance in hell Ayton will take anything less than the max after watching all them get paid.

I am not really sure what the Suns are expecting from Ayton in this situation. You drafted him OVER Luke Doncic, Ayton has battled and done everything asked of him. He’s become a walking double double big man who can play defense very well. He’s apart of the BIG 3 in Phoenix that has a chance to make another finals run. You give him the money that he deserves and that he has earned over the past couple years. Bad move by the Suns.

PAY THE MAN!
