The Pittsburgh Steelers have named Russell Wilson as their Week 1 starting QB vs. the Atlanta Falcons, as per Jay Glazer. Justin Fields will be the backup.
Wilson and Fields have been battling for the starting quarterback job all of training camp. Wilson was the presumptive favorite at the beginning of camp.
Wilson is coming off a season, where he threw for 3,070 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos released Wilson and he signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in free agency.
Fields was acquired from the Chicago Bears in a March trade for a conditional sixth-round pick. He was the 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft.
