The young Frenchman has seen an increase in minutes with Jerami Grant out the past two games with soreness in his right knee and he is taking advantage of the opportunity. It has been a thing all year that Sekou hasn’t been seen many minutes on the floor this year, so it’s great to see the improvement while he’s out there. In 23 minutes, he scored 11 points with 3 boards and 1 assist. His stat sheet might not be that exciting, but from watching the game the eye test was impressive as he ran the floor and made plays to the hoop, which is his strength:

Coach Dwane Casey complemented Sekou after the game saying about how he’s doing better at finishing at the rim:

Doumbouya also made plays on the end of the floor, including a few impressive defensive possessions against Carmelo. While his overall progress might be slow, as a ‘Stawns fan you gotta be happy with the improvement. People need to remember that he’s still only 20 and when he was drafted it was known that he was very raw and would need time to develop. It’s going to be fun to see this young core in Detroit put it all together.
