NFL legend Steve McMichael is fighting ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and while the former Chicago Bear and WCW wrestler is maintaining a fighting spirit, there are scumbags out there trying to exploit the fund-raising efforts for the fallen football player by selling unauthorized merchandise which going into the scumbags’ pockets instead of helping McMichael and his family. In case you’re curious as to why McMichael needs help, here is an excerpt from his GoFundMe page:
Chicago Bears Super Bowl XX Champion and fan favorite, Steve “Mongo” McMichael, has been diagnosed with ALS (or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Steve was diagnosed in January with a 36-month onset. Steve has been suffering in silence for too long. He is paralyzed from the shoulders down so his wife of 20 years, Misty, feeds him and supports him with all hygiene needs. Steve’s legs are weakening and uses a customized wheelchair provided by the Chicago Bears.
The former defensive tackle who terrified quarterbacks during the 80s and 90s issued the following statement concerning the shitbags selling fake Mongo merchandise:
“Please let everyone know Misty, Macy and I are very humbled by the love, support and generosity being shown to us. It’s overwhelming. However, I am disheartened to learn of the vultures circling trying to make money off my illness.
“I ask that they do the right thing and remove these products immediately. I don’t want my real fans to think they are donating to my struggle when they aren’t. Is there anything worse than people making money off someone’s illness?”
If these scumbags don’t crawl back to their sewers, I’m hopeful that some of Mongo’s football and wrestling friends will encounter them and deal with them accordingly.
Mongo has received an outpouring of support from his fans and friends, including a recent visit from fellow Four Horsemen Ric “Nature Boy” Flair.
