Ring of Combat 74: James Gonzalez vs Leeryan Douglas

Spread the love

This Friday, October 22, Atlantic City’s longest-running MMA Promotion, Lou Neglia’s Ring of Combat is making its return, and it’s coming back with a bang. This card has 13 fights, and three title bouts, and each fight features some of the hottest prospects the sport has to offer.

Ring of Combat has earned the reputation of being the “American Idol” of MMA because if you show out in ROC, you’re gonna get signed to the sport’s most prestigious promotions. Ring of Combat has produced over 150 UFC fighters, and 6 UFC champions, so when you’re watching an ROC card, you’re watching the future of the sport.

James Gonzales vs Lerryan Douglas

In the co-main event, James Gonzalez and Leeryan Douglas are facing off for the ROC featherweight championship, and this fight very well may be the most exciting one on this entire card. Training out of Long Island, Gonzalez is the champion, and a hometown prospect looking to defend his title in the east coast’s premier MMA organization. But, standing in was way, is an extremely tough Brazillian in Douglas, who’s looking to bring the belt to his hometown of Paranagua, Brazil.

Sporting a 7-4 professional record, James Gonzalez is the Ring of Combat featherweight champion, and he’s coming off of an impressive decision victory over Jeff Lentz in July. James has won three of his last four fights, including a first-round victory over now UFC fighter Pat Sabitini. So, with a win on Saturday, James could find himself on the fast track to a shot in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

In the other corner, we have Leeryan Douglas, who’s coming to Atlantic City all the way from Brazil for this fight, and is coming to claim the title. Leeryan is another guy knocking on the door of a shot at the UFC, sporting a 7-3 record, a two-fight win streak, and he’s only 26 years of age.

So, if you look at the situation surrounding this fight, it’s very feasible that the winner is on his way to the UFC or the Contender Series, and the loser is back to the drawing board. Not only is this potentially on the line, but so is the opportunity to get the belt wrapped around your waist, and claim the title of Ring of Combat featherweight champion of the world.
