The Rays designated Hunter Renfroe for assignment this past November, somewhat surprisingly, just a year after acquir ing him from The San Diego Padres. Renfroe will stay within the AL East, though, as he has signed a one-year commitment with the Boston Red Sox, the club announces.
In the strike shortened season, the 29 year old slugger hit just .156/.252/.393, despite his career averages in San Diego being .235/.294/.494. He does have 97 homeruns in just 432 games. He’s a perfect platoon candidate, with a .258/.339/.573 slash against lefthanders. He is also one of the better defensive outfielders in baseball. In three games at Fenway, he’s hit .364 and slugged over 1.000, albeit a small sample size.
He will make $3.1M guaranteed in 2021 with the potential in incentives to make it $3.7M.
