Outfielder Scott Heineman was non-tendered by the Rangers yesterday after only 49 games in the Majors. Across those 49 games, he’s hit to a putrid .189/.259/.331 slash.

The new deal, which serves solely as a depth move for the Rangers organization, is a contract split between the Majors and AAA, which features a $595K salary over time spent in the game’s highest level.

He does have potential. In 2019, he hit to a fantastic .340/.412/.553 slash in 182 plate appearances in AAA, it just hasn’t yet translated as he gets his footing in the Majors. He doesn’t have a clear path to full playing time in The Show. All-Star Joey Goey as well as Willie Calhoun lock down the corner roles in Arlington with Ronald Guzman at first base.
