Late last week, it was announced that the Pittsburgh Steelers signed quarterback Joshua Dobbs to a 1 year deal to back up veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Steelers fans likely remember that Dobbs was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Steelers. He spent two years playing behind starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger before he was eventually traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars early in the 2019 season for a fifth round pick.
Dobbs spent a full year with the Jaguars before he was eventually waived early in the 2020 season. A day later, he was claimed to the Steelers. He was brought on as a third string quarterback and backed up Mason Rudolph who was the second string.
Team President Art Rooney made the claim at the end of the 2020 season that he wanted to add to the quarterback position in one way or another. With Dobbs back on the depth chart, he will be fighting for a sport with Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins to back up Ben Roethlisberger for the 2021 season.
This isn’t the only recent transaction in the NFL at the quarterback position. It was also announced recently that the Las Vegas Raiders released their veteran quarterback, and there is hope that the Minnesota Vikings pick him up!
