This is not the first time an NFL player has faced felony gun charges. In fact, it almost seems like a recurring cycle in the NFL, and hopefully after this the penalty will be even more harsh.

Early Friday morning, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Justin Layne was arrested on suspicion of felony transportation of a firearm while driving a vehicle in Lake County, OH at 3 a.m. Aside from the felony charge, Layne was also charged two misdemeanors, including exceeding speed limits and driving with a suspended license. Police in Lake County indicated they stopped Layne initially for going 89 mph in a 60 mph zone.

“We are aware of the incident but still gathering information,” the Steelers said in a statement. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

Layne was granted release on a personal bond. His next court date is scheduled for May 5, according to court records..

This isn’t the only news going on in Pittsburgh. Apparently the Steelers recently signed a new quarterback. What does this mean for Ben Roethlisberger? Click the link below to find out.
