The worst thing about sports blogging is reporting on the deaths of athletes. With that said, it just happens to be part of the job.

This one flew under the radar a bit, but late last month, former Pittsburgh Steeler, Rod Breedlove passed away at the age of 83.

Breedlove was drafted 35th overall by the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers in the 1960 draft. On the night before the final preseason game, Breedlove was traded to the Washington Redskins after the Redskins lost their starting linebacker due to an injury.

After five seasons with the Redskins, who he made the 1962 Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams with, Breedlove then joined the Pittsburgh Steelers to finish out the final years of his career.

I’m other NFL news, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had the following to say about Pittsburgh’s upcoming 2021 season.

“There is a lot of new,” Roethlisberger said, via Joe Rutter of the Tribune-Review. “For someone who has had a very similar offense for a very long time, verbiage-wise, it’s taking some extra studying. It’s a fun, new challenge. Guys are getting it, and hopefully it translates into winning football.”
