The Philadelphia Phillies are signing closer Jordan Romano to a one year deal, as per Jeff Passan of ESPN.
The 32 year-old Romano has spent his entire six year MLB career with the Toronto Blue Jays. He was the team’s close from 2021 to 2023.
During Romano’s time as the Blue Jays closer, he saved 95 games with a 2.37 earned run average.
Romano’s 2024 season was marred by injuries. He was dealing right elbow inflammation and underwent arthroscopic surgery on the elbow in July.
Last year, Romano had a 1-2 record with 8 saves and a 6.59 ERA. He only pitched 13.2 innings and appeared in 15 games.
The Phillies bullpen needed a right-hand pitcher that can lose Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez to free agency.
