Philadelphia Phillies Manager Rob Thomson said Austin Hays will play every day. He also said Brandon Marsh will start in CF vs. righties, Johan Rojas in CF vs. lefties, but Phillies not calling it a straight platoon, as per Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The Phillies acquired Hays in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. He is hitting ninth and playing left field for tonight’s game against Cleveland.
Hays has a .255 batting with 3 home runs and 14 RBI in 63 games with the Orioles this season.
The Phillies also announced that they placed starting pitcher Ranger Suarez on the 15-day IL today. He is dealing with a back issue.
Suarez was scheduled to start Sunday’s series finale against the Cleveland Guardians. Left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard, who was called up from Triple A, will get the nod in his place.
