After Detroit Lions’ new head coach Dan Campbell made a comment as he jokingly said that he wanted a pet lion on the practice turf, many have speculated that PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) would take that quote seriously.
However, the organization actually responded to that comment both negatively and positively.
Reported and tweeted by multiple sources on Twitter, it is announced that PETA, even though they acknowledged that Campbell’s quote was a joke, is actually sending a plush toy lion named ‘Dan Detroit’ to the head coach.
But this occurred with a long statement that the organization had to explain their stance on issues involving keeping wild animals as pets.
At least PETA is kinda cool with the quote, even though they had to gripe a bit on keeping live lions as pets at Detroit’s practice facility.
To be fair, it would have been an interesting sight seeing a live lion at the facility. Campbell’s motivation and energy with the quote would make that crazy idea work, but ownership or animal people/groups probably would not allow it.
