The Lions picked Penei Sewell with the seventh pick in last nights draft. This pick wasn’t surprising, most had the Lions either grabbing him or a wide receiver. Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle were already picked when the Lions were up, the most logical pick was Sewell. A wide receiver wasn’t gonna change this teams outlook for this year. This is a long rebuild process, Sewell will be here for the long term. He is the best offensive lineman in the draft.
Sewell opted out of the 2020 season to prepare for the draft. In 2019, Sewell was named a unanimous All-American and won the Outland and Morris trophies. Sewell played left tackle in college but with Taylor Decker as the left tackle, Sewell will most likely be moving to the right side of the line. Sewell has been practicing as a right tackle just incase for a situation like this. The Lions war room seemed hyped as hell to get their guy.
With Sewell, Frank Ragnow, and Taylor Decker leading that line, it has the potential to be one of the best. Now we wait and see what he Lions do on night two.
