Throughout his extremely successful New England Patriot career, Julian Edelman was always Tom Brady’s most reliable receiver and for the last couple years it’s been hard for wide receiver to stay healthy for a full season. After only playing six games in 2020 before missing the rest of the season because of a knee issue, Edelman has stated he plans to play this upcoming season regardless of pain. According to a source familiar with Edelman’s situation, it’s doubtful he will be able to play the entire 2021 season or beyond. The knee has already affected him for the better part of two years. When asked about retirement in the near future, Edelman had plenty to say.

“I’m getting there, It was a rough year when it came to just my physicality and how I felt. It’s tough, but this is the time where you sit, and you self-reflect, and you self-evaluate, and you self-scout yourself through all last year. You’re really go in and try to develop a formula, and try to develop a game plan for how you’re going to attack the offseason. That’s the process I’m in right now.”

The NFL is moving to a 17 game season next year which isn’t gonna be any easier on the 34 year old. This off-season the New England Patriots signed free agent wide receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne to help out their lack of depth. It’s gonna be interesting to see what Edelman does considering he may not be able to play games without pain. No matter what happens, Julian Edelman will always be one of the best.
