Former MMA star Paige VanZant announced on her Instagram today that she has signed an exclusive contract with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. She said it has been something she has been planning on doing for a while. The deal was just signed today.
BKFC founder and president David Feldman joined VanZant on-screen in the live stream broadcast. He said he is looking forward to growing the brand and she will be a key part of the company. Her first fight should be in November with an opponent yet to be announced.
The 26-year-old ended her MMA career with a 8-5 record. Her last fight with UFC was on 7/12/20 to finish out her contract. She lost to Amanda Ribas by submission in 2:21 of the first round.
She started combat sports training as a teenager at Ken Shamrock’s “The Lion’s Den” in Reno, Nevada. She wanted to learn self defense after being sexually assaulted by multiple male high school classmates at a party. She made her MMA debut on 6/30/20 at a UWF event in Corpus Christi, Texas with a split decision win over Jordan Nicole Gaza.
VanZant’s move came as a bit of surprise today. MMA and pro wrestling insider sites thought she would be joining either WWE or Bellator MMA. Her husband, Austin Vanderford, fights for Bellator MMA.
