The next installation of NXT’s TakeOver PPV’s culminates, tonight from the MODA Center in Portland, Oregon. The card is absolutely stacked with 3 title matches coupled with 2 vicious rivalries that will make for a terrific night of action.

Let’s breakdown each match-up…

NXT Championship Match – Adam Cole (C) vs Tommaso Ciampa

https://twitter.com/NXTCiampa/status/1228325875827007488

Breakdown – Tommaso Ciampa finally gets his chance to recapture “Goldie”, the title he never lost and had to relinquish almost a year ago to the day because of major neck surgery, when he challenges current champion, Adam Cole. After a near 7-month layoff because of said-surgery, Ciampa returned to action when he confronted Cole on NXT’s network television premier, in October which led to a match between Ciampa & 3 teammates against Cole’s Undisputed Era brethren, the next month at the “War-Games” PPV. A match in which Ciampa’s squad was victorious after he drove Cole through two tables off the top of the cage. That made this rivalry boil over more then ever which will culminate in an NXT Championship match in just over 48 hours.

NXT Women’s Championship Match – Rhea Ripley (C) vs Bianca Belair

Breakdown – Bianca Belair became the # 1 contender for Rhea Ripley’s NXT Women’s Championship after winning a battle royal, last month. Meanwhile, Rhea Ripley was busy successfully defending her title against Toni Storm, last month at the “World’s Collide” event. Ripley has been the face of the brand ever since ending Shayna Baszler’s 400+ day reign and capturing the NXT Women’s Championship in the process, in December. Last month, after becoming the # 1 contender, Belair was a surprise entrant in the Women’s Royal Rumble match and made a huge statement in eliminating 8 women after entering # 2 in the event to put herself on the map as a legitimate threat to Ripley’s title.

NXT Tag Team Championships – The Undisputed Era (C) vs Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne

Breakdown – 2 weeks ago, the “odd-couple” pairing of Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne won the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag-Team Tournament & with that, earned the right to face the current champions, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish, The Undisputed Era. O’Reilly & Fish recaptured the titles in August & have ran the tag-team division ever since & will face their toughest task to date in the newly formed “Broserweights”.

NXT North American Championship – Keith Lee (C) vs Dominik Dijakovic

Breakdown – NXT North American Champion, Keith Lee & challenger, Dominik Dijakovic have had an epic rivalry over the last couple of months, trading wins & losses before setting aside their differences to team up with the aforementioned Tommaso Ciampa to take on The Undisputed Era at the “War-Games” event, in November, a match in which they were victorious. 2 weeks ago, Dijakovic won a # 1 contender’s match against Killian Dain to earn a match against his former foe & current champion, Keith Lee.

Street Fight – Tegan Nox vs Dakota Kai

Breakdown – This very personal rivalry dates back to the “War-Games” even, last November where Dakota Kai who was scheduled to team with Tegan Nox in the 1st ever Women’s War-Games match. However, Kai had other ideas, as she viciously attacked Nox before their match & further damaging the already injured knee of Nox. These two ladies had a hard hitting affair a few weeks ago on an episode of NXT, a match in which Nox picked up a victory over Kai with help of a distraction frpm her friend, Candice LeRae. Last week, Nox surprised Kai with a vicious assault of her own, after Kai defeated the aforementioned LeRae which leads us to a match where the rule-book doesn’t apply. This one promises to be an all-out war.

Singles Match – Johnny Gargano vs Finn Balor

Breakdown – Like the Tegan Nox-Dakota Kai rivalry, this one is based off of a vicious assault trying to injure the other superstar. In October, Balor took out Gargano after a brutal DDT on the steel ramp, which capped off an all-out attack by Balor. The assault led to Gargano missing his 1st NXT PPV since 2016 after a neck injury hampered him for almost 2 months. In December, Gargano returned & distracted Balor during his NXT Championship match against Adam Cole, which caused Balor to lose the match. After the match, Gargano attacked Balor with a steel chair to get some revenge on his newly minted rival. It’ll be an a war, this Sunday.

That wraps up this preview of NXT TakeOver: Portland, which promises to be one of the best wrestling events of the year & it’s going to be a great watch.
