Nick Burdi has a long history with injuries, that included a Tommy John in 2017 and thoracic outlet syndrome in 2019. After a forearm strain shut him down this season, it is now announced he has undergone his second Tommy John.
Adam Berry of MLB’s website is also reported that he has been designated for assignment, clearing a forty man roster spot. Per the Pirates, he will miss 16-18 months, which is significantly longer than normal recovery for this procedure.
The former top prospect has pitched just 12.1 innings over the last three seasons.
