A number of news sites are reporting that the NFL has fined the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints for violating its COVID-19 precautionary policies. According to a report from NBC News:

The Patriots have to pay a $350,000 fine after quarterback Cam Newton’s Covid-19 diagnosis made the league push back a Week 4 game between the Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs, NFL.com reported.

COVID fines are the least of the Pats’ worries

In addition, the Saints are forking over the bucks as:

The Saints face a steeper fine of $500,000 for a “maskless locker room celebration” that followed their Week 9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to the league’s site. The team, which reportedly also held a maskless meeting, was also docked a seventh round draft pick in addition to the fine.

In an apparent case of giving zero fucks, the Saints were previously fined. NFL.com’s Jeremy Bergman noted:

The Saints are repeat offenders. Earlier this season, the league fined both the Saints and the Las Vegas Raiders organizations $250,000 each and coaches Sean Payton and Jon Gruden $100,000 each for failure to follow proper face-covering protocol during their Week 2 clash on Monday Night Football.

Considering the team’s bankrolls, these fines are the equivalent of everyday fans digging into your car’s change slot for coffee money. Teams like the Saints may actually care if the league starts dishing out seven-figure fines and/or primo picks from the draft.
