With Russell Wilson out due to the finger injury he suffered a few weeks ago on Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams, the Seattle Seahawks have been relegated to starting Geno Smith.

How has that worked out for Seattle? Not great.

On paper, Smith has held his own, but the Seahawks are 0-2 with him and he’s not exactly looking like he’ll get the Seahawks to the playoffs.

Thus, it has forced the Seahawks to look at a free agent who has been at home waiting for the right opportunity.

Cam Newton.

Reports have indicated that Seattle has in fact spoken to Newton, who is vaccinated and wants to play again in 2021.

Newton was with the New England Patriots last season, starting in 15 games and threw for 2,657 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Newton was 7-8 as the Patriots starter in 2020.

The Patriots had brought Newton back on another one-year deal, but he was released after Mac Jones was given the starting quarterback job, which made sense since Jones was drafted in the first round and his progression in training camp and the preseason elevated enough to where he was named the starter.

Newton is hoping for a chance to play and this may be the right opportunity for him. The Seahawks are 2-4 and in last place of the NFC West with the Cardinals at 6-0 and Rams at 5-1. The 49ers are 2-3, but they hardly look like a playoff contender.

At worst, the Seahawks should sign him and see what he can do. He’s better than Geno Smith and can give a spark to the Seahawks offense.

Considering Newton spent most of 2019 on the sidelines due to injuries and what ultimately lead to his departure from the franchise, the rest for the first six weeks of the league can only help the 32-year-old.

Would Seahawks fans want Newton? Let’s check.

Looks like the majority would want Pete Carroll to get Newton to Seattle. As of right now, nothing has happened yet, but maybe the Seahawks losing again and Geno Smith getting embarrassed on national television against the New Orleans Saints can prompt a quarterback change.
