NFL Reinstates Patriots Wide Receiver Josh Gordon

The NFL has reinstated New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon from his indefinite suspension.

His return will be conditional, although no one seems to know exactly what those conditions are yet. Gordon took a break to focus on his mental health last season and was suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

“We are all rooting for Josh to succeed, both personally and professionally,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “Everyone shares in that hope and will continue to support him to every extent possible. But as Josh acknowledged, ultimately his success is up to him.”

The 28-year-old will be eligible to play in New England’s final preseason game against the New York Giants.

Gordon was seen working out with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in June.

If Gordon can stay out of trouble, he should become an immediate factor in the Patriots offense, which already boasts Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry and Demaryius Thomas.

Last season, Gordon averaged an impressive 18 yards per catch for the Patriots.
